The Range with the Largest Remaining Population of Wild
Asian Elephants in Myanmar!

The Elephants Range is located on the Arakan mountain range in the south west of Myanmar. Gwa, the closest town is next to the Arakan coastal which is 256 km from Yangon. The range is wide and extensive stretching to north and south with evergreen forest. Mountain ridges are towering from 150m to 1050m above sea level with steep and rough peaks. There are also steep creeps and streams, meandering the whole region. The three main rivers in the park area are flowing out to the Bay of Bangel.It is land locked with no transportation except by footpath.
Total park area is 1755.71 sq km 677.88 sq miles and that was originally declared as Protected Area by the Forest Department, dated on 13 rd, October 1997. The main object is to conserve wild elephants and various species of wildlife and their habitats as well as to serve as a fresh water resource for coastal ecosystem.
Tropical evergreen forests, mixed deciduous forest and tropical moist bamboo brakes occur in the reserve. About 75% of total park area is covered with luxuriant bamboo brakes. About 40 species of trees, 9 species of bamboos, 4 species of rattans, and 36 species of orchids are identified. One of the orchid species is endemic to the area.
The Rakhine Yoma Elephant Range has abundance in wildlife. At the moment, 36 species of mammal, 26 species of butterfly, 30 species of freshwater fish, 96 species of reptile and amphibian, 12 species of arthropod and 64 species of bird are listed. Arakan Forest turtle is endemic to the range and globally endangered. About 150 wild elephants, tigers, leopards, gaurs, bears, monkeys, civets, and other small mammals inhabit in the range. But the viability of remaining tiger population is doubtful.
In this site only 96 bird species have been recorded, but it is believed that others are yet to be discovered. Highlights would be Bamboo Woodpecker, Oriental Pied Hornbill, Great Hornbill, Red-headed Trogon, Green-billed Malkoha, Vernal Hanging Parrot and Green Iora.
Studying Arakan Forest Turtle (Myanmar endemic Turtle), butterfly watching, plant and orchid surveying, trekking and adventure in the natural forest at the Arakan Mountain Range, and observation of the traditional culture and system of living of local Rakhine and Chin tribes are possibilities. Recommend to visit all the year round but the best time to bird watching is during November to April.

Bird Watching In Bagan Region ( Myanmar )

BIRDING IN BAGAN REGION ( Myanmar )

This Myanmar (Burma) ecotourism, birding, birds watching and culture tours site, Bagan is situated on the east bank of the Ayeyarwaddy River, Central Myanmar Dry Zone and is semi-desert with scrub and scattered trees. In this site only 138 bird species have been recorded, but it is believed that others are yet to be discovered. This site is an excellent place for birds watching in Myanmar. The highlight species are the rare Hooded Treepie, White-throated Babbler, rare Jerdon's Minivet (split from White-bellied Minivet) and Burmese Bushlark which are Myanmar endemic species, Rain Quail, Barred Buttonquail, Laggar Falcon, Common Hoopoe, Chestnut-headed Bee-eater, Spotted Owlet, Indian Nightjar, Burmese Shrike, Vinous-breasted Starling, Streak-eared Bulbul, Yellow-eyed Babbler, Brown Prinia and Plain-backed Sparrow may be observed. Numerous other species can also be observed in this Myanmar (Burma) ecotourism, birding, birds watching and culture tours area.
Ayeyarwaddy (Irrawaddy) River is one of two major rivers and largest river in Myanmar. This section of the river has extensive broad sand-bars and some muddy edges. Some area of the banks are covered by thin thorny scrub. Only 101 bird species have been recorded,but it is believed that others are yet to be discovered.
The highlight species are the White-tailed Stonechat, Long-billed Pipit, Sand Lark, Ruddy Shelduck, Spot-billed Duck, Northern Shoveler, Northern Pintail, Common Teal, Great Cormorant, River Lapwing, Great Thick-knee, rare Indian Skimmer, Small Pratincole, Pied Kingfisher, Grey Plover, Little Ringed Plover, Spotted Redshank, River and Black-bellied Terns, rare Greater Spotted Eagle, Harriers, thousands of Sand and Plain Martins.
Bagan (Pagan) is also Myanmar most important archeology zone and is one of the richest archaeological sites in Asia. The city of Bagan covers an area of 42 sq km. There, one can fine over 2,000 pagodas and temples built during the Bagan Dynasty founded by King Anawrahta in 1044 A.D.
In addition, butterfly watching may offer many good sightings in this Myanmar (Burma) ecotourism, birding, birds watching and culture tours site.

This Myanmar (Burma) ecotourism, birds watching and birding site, Inle Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary is established in 1985 for the safety of migratory birds and their habitat. This site is located in the Thanlwin River basin at the Shan Plateau in East Myanmar at an elevation of 1,300 meters above sea level (19˚46' - 20˚38' N and 96˚47'- 97˚6' E).
Inle Lake is oval and elongated shape, and fairly shallow with a maximum measured depth of 4 meters. The lake is belongs to the Nyaung Shwe Township, Shan State and 30 km south-west of Taunggyi. It is a part of Shwe Nyaung rift valley. A flat plain known as Nyaung Shwe plain lies in the north of the lake and the forested mountain ranges occur at the east and west of the lake. The total area of the drainage basin is 3700 km sq. The wetland is home to more than120000 people and a large bird sanctuary and a major source of hydro electrical power for southern Myanmar.
Inle is rich in birdlife. 254 bird species have been recorded there. Highlights would be rare Jerdon's Bushchat, White-tailed Stonechat, Collared Myna, Black-collared Starling, rare Sarus Crane, Glossy Ibis, Ferruginous Pochard, Spot-billed Duck, Garganey, Pheasant-tailed Jacana, Black-winged Stilt, Sandpipers, Sooty-headed Bulbul, Crimson Sunbird, Clamorous Reed Warbler, Red Avadavat and Yellow-breasted Bunting. And also breeding or roosting colonies of Little, Cattle, Intermediate and Great Egrets, Chinese Pond, Indian Pond and Black-crowned Night Herons, Vinous-breasted, Black-collared, Chestnut-tailed and Asian Pied Starlings, Collared, Jungle, White-vented and Common Mynas would be seen in this Myanmar (Burma) ecotourism, birds watching and birding site.
Native aquatic plants include pondweed, coontail, bladder wort, stone wort, muster grass, and elephant grass. Pondweed is used as a food source by both people and fish. Elephant grass, known locally as Kaing is important in the structure of floating island for agriculture, as well as weaving mats. Water hyacinth, known as Baeda, is useful for floating land.
Five fish families inhabit Inle water. They are mainly carp, catfish, murrel and also an endemic cyprinid. Intha fishermen harvest the carp with conical net stretched over wood and bamboo frames. A variety of harpoons are employed to spear fishes. The Inle carp, known as Nga-Phane plays an important role in the food supply to the area people.
The unique traditional style of one leg-rowers, fishing, floating market and floating agriculture are added attractions in this Myanmar (Burma) ecotourism, birds watching and birding site.
In addition, one may observe aquatic plants and animals, and butterflies, do trekking, and visit historical pagodas, such as Phaung Daw OO, Alowdaw Pauk, Shwe In Daing, Taung Do around the lake and other pagodas in the surrounding hill. The unique traditional style of leg rowing, fishing, floating market, floating vegetation, boat racing, and handicrafts of Intha are amazing for all.
Of added interest is the experience of interacting with endemic people, including Padaung tribes who continue the practice of ringed neck.
Inle may be visited all the year round, but the best time for migratory birds and trekking activities is from November to May.

Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu
On your arrival at Kathmandu Airport you will be met by our representative who will take you to the hotel for the night.

Day 02: Full day tour to kathmandu Valley
Kathmandu is hub of Cultural & Heritage. The valley contains three durbar squares (Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktpur respectively) which shares similar architecture. Swoyambhunath, Boudhanath is Buddhist stupa and Pashupatinath holy site for Hindus. All these sites are recognized by UNESCO world heritage site.

Day 03: Nagarkot -Bhaktpur- Thimi

And, also wintering Spoon-billed Sandpiper Eurynorhynchus pygmeus was rediscovered in January 2008, after a gap of almost 131 years, wintering Nordmann's Greenshank Tringa guttifer was rediscovered in 2006, after a gap of almost 129 years and Gurney's Pitta Pitta gurneyi was rediscovered in 2003, after a gap of almost 90 years.
Myanmar (Burma) ecotourism, bird watching / birding sites have 1,067 bird species, five of which are endemic bird to Myanmar; 114 bird species are globally threatened and near-threatened.
